#9, ICE HOUSE STUDIOS
Kelly Lane is a thoughtful and vibrant collection of organic clothing for women and children handmade-to-order exclusively in Pittsburgh, PA. Formally trained as a graphic designer, my approach is heavily influenced by the Bauhaus method where technical and artistic skill are given equal emphasis – where utility and aesthetics are one. Beyond the Bauhaus, where the emphasis is often placed solely on the designer's perspective, I began the line 10 years ago in dialogue with women to find out her wants, needs and desires – to feel beautiful without a fuss; to own fewer, more versatile pieces that can be worn day to night; and to wear something unique that tells a story. Each season I take inspiration from childhood memories and life experiences to develop a theme for the collection. I create custom prints, color palettes, and silhouettes that draw upon this theme to create a cohesive and compelling visual story. This year’s theme, Rivers and Bridges, commemorates my 10th year anniversary by drawing from the birthplace of my business - Pittsburgh, The City of Bridges.
Bradford moved to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University after living across the U.S. and world as an Air Force brat. Adopting Pittsburgh as his home, Bradford has operated his own massage therapy business since 2000. Bradford took his first sewing class in 2009 at Cut and Sew Studio in the East Liberty and has been sitting at his sewing machine ever since. Working for a variety of clients, Bradford initially used his talents to sew draperies and home interior projects before making the transition to alternations and special event dresses. Today, he creates his own designs in his studio in Lawrenceville under his “Bradford Mumpower” label. Bradford draws inspiration from the prints and the textiles he personally selects to create stunning clothing that empowers and brings out the beauty in every woman.
